About Karen Davis
I’m a Midwestern farmer’s daughter who’s still a country girl at heart. I have a sweet tooth, so most of the down home meals at our house include a little dessert. My husband, Scott, is my chief taste-tester.
We are both “farm kids” who share fond memories of showing livestock in 4-H and growing up on famliy farms.
How I Met My Husband
We met at an omelet breakfast. Yes, it’s true. I was working at the Iowa Egg Council, which was my first job after graduating from Iowa State University with a degree in Home Economics Education. Scott helped organize the customer appreciation breakfast for the co-op where he worked. I made him an omelet that morning, and as they say, the rest is history!
After hanging up my apron as an “egg lady”, I promoted pork for the National Pork Producers, and later worked in the cooking appliance division at Maytag. I’ve always enjoyed cooking, and I love working with Iowa foods.
What I Do For A Living
I write a regular column for Our Iowa magazine, travel as a freelance demonstrator for Taste of Home Cooking Schools, and operate my own freelance food marketing company, Karen Davis Communications, LLC.

We live in a small Iowa town and enjoy gardening and traveling. When given the choice, we take the scenic byways and stop at local diners and cafes. It’s just the two of us, so our nieces and nephews are extra special.
Why We Love Small Town Living
We live in a community where people gather together for church potlucks, they bring dinners to those suffering an illness or celebrating a new baby, and they drop off cookies for neighbors “just because”.
