Karen received her Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, in 1989 from Iowa State University where she double-majored in Home Economics Education (teacher certification) and Educational Services in Family and Consumer Sciences (adult education).
Karen has more than 25 years of food marketing and education experience. She writes a regular cooking tips column for Our Iowa magazine and has traveled for the past 10 years to 26 states as a freelance instructor for Taste of Home Cooking Schools. The cooking schools are open to the public, typically feature 10 live onstage recipe demonstrations, and draw an average of 500 attendees per show.
She has been featured as an on-camera demonstrator for online recipe and cooking technique videos. In addition, Karen has served as a spokesperson for radio and TV segments across the country.
Previously, Karen also worked as a culinary professional within the food marketing industry for companies such as Maytag Appliances, the National Pork Producers Council, the Iowa Egg Council, and Cook’s Emporium.
